Where?Ok, i'm back, Back from where? back from Cumberland Island.
It's off the cost of Georgia. Actually i'll show you the google map of it..
So as you see, there is the Island on the right side, i circled the important parts, i'll have more zoomed in satalitte photos later.
How about some story leading up to the trip? ok...
Once upon a time there was a boy and girl named 'procrastination'.
Yea, you heard me, procrastination. Lindsey had the idea of going to this island where you take a ferry and you camp on an island and goto the beach whenever you want. So we thought about it and made plans, and by made plans i mean "we thought about it alot and never made reservations"
So we waited and waited, never talked to anyone about camping (i've never ever been camping). Well the thursday before we left i decided to call up and make reservations. I asked for "SeaCamp" and she said "oh sorry we are all booked up on seacamp until the 27th" "i said, oh crap, i'll call you back" I called lindsey and she said , " just book back country". So i called up and booked back country. We are leaving Sunday night at Midnight getting there to ride the ferry over at 11:45am and we are sleeping on the island Monday night, Tuesday night, and come home wednesday at 2:45pm.
UnPrepparedSo at this point, we don't have a tent, no food list, no sleeping bags, no supplies, nothing really. I was planning on getting a tent from Lucy but i had to get some supplies from Murphy so i went ahead and got everything that i needed from him.
Sunday night, we are planning on leaving at midnight. Still need all the supplies. I talk to Rachel's dad, he is a camping/hiking guru. He started giving me some pointers about camping and telling me what i needed. He has been to the island before so he was telling me specifics about the island. He told me to pick campsite 11 or 13... those looked good to him when he hiked through the area. I said "well i don't think i'll have a campsite choice, we are staying in back country" he said "oh... uh oh... well... i wish you would have called me earlier, i could have helped you alot more". So that made me feel really good. We got off the phone and then rachel called me back right after and said "hey buddy, sounds like you are in trouble, how about you camp in the smokies first to practice" I just told her that it's ok and i'll be fine. Then lindsey came over, on the way out of our subdivision we stopped by a neighbor's place to pick up the first sleeping bag and 2 foldable chairs with bags then we went to Murphy's and picked up a tent, some string, another sleeping bag and some flip flops. Then andy called me, andy gave me a flash light, a machete/hatchet/saw/12" blade thing, it was awesome. Andy also gave me a Gerber Multitool, a GPS unit, a military issue backpick with water bladder, and a seperate camelback water pack. Needless to say, i felt pretty preppared. We went to walmart, bought stuff, bug spray, tent stakes(steaks? i dunno), Rope, water, beef jerky, trail mix, friut bars, batteries, and we are off on the road!!!
The Driveok, so yea,
Directions from home to the island...There are the google directions to the area. It says 10 hours, that is why we left so early. We had to catch our ferry at 11:45. It took us a little over 7 hours = )
This was me...

haha... yea, we got there fast, we were both awake the entire time and we talked to entire time too.
ArrivalWe are there! to problems on the road, totally awesome and easy drive. We got there around 8AM and decided that we do'nt want to wait until 11:45 to get on the ferry. We go in, say "hey we are here to check in.. kennedy .. yea, we are on the 11:45, can we change to 9:00? Really? awesome! what? yes we want to stay at sea camp!!!" so this means that we don't have to hike 5 miles with all of our stuff to the campsite, this also mean that we have showers (cold water) and toilets! this also means we can use carts to move our stuff to our campsite, about .8 miles away from the dock.
On the Ferry
Good Bye Mainland
Coming up to the Island
Awesome Sky
Our Feet
The Ocean
Huge Beach, at most 15 people on the beach
The path back to the camp
There were sand Dunes all along the beach, you weren't allowed to walk on these
The long walk from the beach back into the woods
Out of the woods and to the beach
Crazy Awesome Tree right before the beach
Close up of that tree
Home Sweet Home
We started hunting for wood to build a fire
We saw a snake
and spiders all over the place
And i stood my ground against all of them
so i tried chopping a log that was near camp
And i started the fire
Sunrise the next morning...

Lindsey shot a couple good photos of these cute kids fishing

So lindsey and i went on a hike, we were looking for cool stuff...
We walked up to this old burnt down mansion...

This is a shot of what the main road looked like on the island, the only cars you saw were research teams or park rangers, yea...
We saw many crazy wild animals on the island, big Lizards
Tons of little crabs

armidillos
And the island was full of wild horses, funny story about the horses... they are wild, and crazy sometimes, they don't mess with you unless you mess with them... or step between them and their baby... which we did the momma starts to neh and walk toward us and lindsey says "it's heading this way!" adn we quickly walked far away... luckily we were safe...

The last night we were sitting by our camp, relaxing, and a deer walked up
I shot a couple pictures but this is the best one out of the 5, I didn't want to use the flash.
